Isle Of Man Youth Tour

So last week we ( the junior lads) were racing at the IOM. Everyone had a good prologue (apart from me, i had a shocker) which led toLaurie starting off stage 2 in 7th. Stage 2 finished on a sharp little climb which went okay – Laurie maintaining his 7th and me being bumped up to 14th -meanwhile james’ was a few seconds back having got cramp :( .Its the final stage that was the real disappointment though, as we had a genuine chance to take the stage win.  I scooted off the front with a few guys to a larger group, totalling about 8 of us. This was just before the halfway point. James and Laurie had this information from gary.s so did a bit of controlling on the front im told (cheers guys ;) )  long story short my break made it! except i had made the extremely large mistake of assuming the finish line was at the same place as last year. Turns out it wasnt. I rolled over in 6th. LAME.Well lesson learnt anyway…  oh and i would of got 3rd overall instead of 8th had i made 1st, 2nd or 3rd. also lame.Johnny K

FIRST POST!!

Sunday came with sunshine for the ‘home’ race of the season, the annual westmorland tankard! The race was to cover a gruelling 8 mile cumbria-style course 8 times before the hill-sprint finish. This being my home course i’d been over the course the previous day and was well up for it. The whole Team (http://teamherbalifewheelbase.co.uk/) had made their way down (10 of us) and considering we WERE 1/6 of the field we were well up for the win.

We set off at just gone 10, at about 20mph all the way up a 2mile climb, and thats when i realised that despite sunshine this sunday was gonna suck. There was probably some stuff going on at the front but i spent most of the first few laps barely holding on at the back so yeah… During that time i also saw 3 of my team mates puncture, probably because the wheels arent meant to be ridden over 5- inch deep potholes, not that it was a problem for the mega-fantastic-super-six frame.

A few more lap later i was feeling better, however by this point about 15 riders were up the road including our own dillon and laurie ( finishing 5th and 12th pos)  The remaining 3 Herbalife riders including me, attacked (sort of) with 1 lap remaining to take 19th, 20th and 22nd (i think..) so it wasnt too bad. Considering we started off with 10 to only have one top-ten didnt look to good, but some of the top guys were here, plus it was hella hard.

Weirdly enough the sprint between the top two guys couldnt be decided with a photo-finish (true) so they went on to play yahtzee for the win (false).
I tried recording the ride on my fancy new garmin which worked in one sense except i hadnt quite got to grips with the lap function unfortunately but this is the basic route: (http://connect.garmin.com/player/29835203) this may or may not work, who knows!
It turns out the leader averaged 24.6mph, which for these roads, believe me, is damn quick.
